Reading Challenge 2014

Every year I like to participate in Goodreads reading challenge. I found this to be an excellent way to keep track of the books I have read and the books I hope to read in the future. Last year I failed miserably at my goal, but I am well on my way to completing mine for this year so I think I may increase it. This is also a great way to connect with your friends to see what they are reading.

Reading Challange Update

My reading goal for this year is to read at least one book each month. In January I finished Creative Bible Teaching by Gary Bredfeldt and Larry Richards. It is published by Moody Press. I had to read this book for school and do a report on it. This book is definitely on my list of top ten teaching books. It is very practical for anyone who teaches the Bible.

I have just finished reading Life is Tremendous by Charlie "Tremendous" Jones. This is one of those books where you can really feel the author's enthusiasm. He encourages you to get excited about life and to learn to love what you do even if it's not what you love doing.

One of the things he says in the beginning of the book is that he doesn't care what you remember from the book but how your thinking is changed through the book. I have been pondering this and thinking this is how it should be with the sermons we hear, what we read in our devotions and the other inspirational books we read. What I remember is not as important as is how my life has been changed and what actions I am taking as a result.

I do not love life based on my circumstances but because of a decision that I have made.

For those of you who have never read Darlene's book, Evidence Not Seen, you are greatly missing out. This is one of my favorite missionary biographies. I think it is especially interesting being written from a woman's perspective. Very challenging and inspiring!

Book Review - A Heart for God

Over the summer I read, A Heart for God by Paul Chappell. This is an excellent book! I highly recommend it to anyone who truly desires to love and serve the Lord with all your heart. I found this book very easy to read and down to earth. He uses many illustrations and makes it very practical. If you're not a big reader, this is a great book for you.
