The Cause

by Dr. Paul Chappell

“And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle. And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?” 1 Samuel 17:28–29

Never stop believing in the cause of transformed lives.

Lee Iacocca is the legendary former CEO of the Chrysler Corporation. As a carmaker he is noted for his historic revival of Chrysler during the 1980s. He is revered as a business mastermind by many. But a look as his autobiography shows his true feelings about his financial and business success: “Here I am in the twilight years of my life, still wondering what it's all about. I can tell you this: fame and fortune is for the birds.” Mr. Iacocca had a cause for his life. He was driven to catapult Chrysler to the top of the auto scene. He was passionate about his cause, yet it never brought him the satisfaction or meaning he desired.

It seems that in today’s world, people are passionate about their causes. Whether it’s saving the whales, preserving the trees, advancing political causes, or promoting ideas; people are passionate about their beliefs. So where are the Christians who are passionate about the cause of Christ, the only cause that provides eternal peace and happiness?

Sadly, many Christians have become silenced about their cause. They have retreated from the front lines, fallen away from the battle for souls, and have taken a back seat to the other causes in our country. But as David said, “Is there not a cause?”

Is there not a cause? Is there still a world dying without Christ? Is God still omniscient in this day? The answer to all these questions is a resounding yes! God is still in control, people still need Christ, and our cause is still to shine the light of God’s Word in our world. We still have cause to fight the good fight of faith.

Even in times of darkness, God has given you a cause. If there were no hope left for the human race, God would have taken you home to Heaven. But you are still here and are still commanded to go and tell others of Christ. Only you can make a difference in the lives of others, and you can only do that through fighting the devil for the cause of the Lord.

Is there not a cause? Do you have a cause to your life? Don’t succumb to the devil’s teaching that the world is so far gone that you cannot make a difference. You can make a difference with Christ’s help. Each time you go out soulwinning, give to the Lord’s work, and live a godly life, you are making a difference in the life of someone else. Never stop believing in the cause of transformed lives. Continue working hard, giving faithfully, and serving so that others can come to know Christ.

Have you forgotten God?

Deuteronomy 8 -

11 Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day:12 Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein;13 And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied;14 Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;

It is so very sad how our nation has turned its back on God. Even more sadly though, are Christians who have backslidden and are now following the ways of the world. Sometimes even in the lives of "dedicated" Christians, God has taken a back seat. Way too often, this is true in my life.

What about you? Have you forgotten God today? Have you opened up your Bible and asked God to show you wondrous things out of His law? Or is your Bible lying dusty on the shelf?

Prayer is not a preparation for work, it is the work. Prayer is not preparation for the battle, it is the battle” -Oswald Chambers

Spring break!

So far spring break has been absolutely crazy! I think I am finally recovering from playing kickball at Brenda and Sanz house on Friday. I definitely need to get in better shape. Saturday Mom, Joanna and I were able to visit my grandparents and go to tea with my grandmother. It was very nice to relax and spend time with my family.

Last night, my parents picked up my niece and nephew, who will be with us until sometime tomorrow. They have livened our house up quite a bit. :) My brother is in the process of moving this week.

I am almost finished getting my graduation invitations ready to send out. It is hard to believe in four weeks I will finally be finished with school! I still have a number of projects to finish up though. I was hoping to put a dent in them this week, but that doesn't seem to be happening (thanks to my three little distractions).

Psalm 4:3-5

"But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him. Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD."
